Veterans Community Services, Homelessness Prevention Program

General Information
Description of ServiceProvides housing search and supportive services to homeless, very low-income Veteran families. Also assists with accessing VA and public benefits and other community resources.

Active participants may apply for temporary financial assistance that is awarded on a case by case basis, for rent, security deposit, and other types of financial assistance in support of permanent housing.

Intake ProcedurePre-Screening via phone with a Program Aid. Document collection and in-person intake meeting with the Intake Coordinator, following phone pre-screening.
Intake RequirementsDD214, verification of income, two months bank statements (savings and checking), verification of homeless status such as a 3rd party certification of homelessness (VCS will provide the form). Other documents may be required to determine eligibility.
Additional RequirementsVerification of income, Veteran status, and homelessness status are required prior to program entry. Written verification is the preferred method.

Eligibility-Head of household is a military veteran with an other than dishonorable discharge.-The Veteran family is literally homeless, not including staying with family/friends, or in a motel paid for by the Veteran family.-The Veteran family is very low-income, under 50% Area Median Income according to HUD. Priority given to cases whose income is under 30% Area Median Income.-The Veteran "family" may also be a single veteran.
